First Nations Policy

Head Above Water acknowledges and recognizes the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia. We pay our respects to their elders who have led the way, those who guide us in the present, and the emerging leaders who will carry the legacy forward long into the future. We recognize the significant contributions they have made and continue to make to our local community and wider society.

We are committed to promoting the rights, cultures, and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia. Through our partnerships with First Nations-led organizations, we strive to foster self-determination, cultural preservation, community empowerment and the promotion of the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We seek to work closely with local First Nations communities to ensure that our programs are culturally proficient, respectful, and responsive to their specific needs and aspirations.

We recognize that true reconciliation and authentic partnerships require ongoing commitment and collaboration. Head Above Water is dedicated, to fostering meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, valuing their knowledge, wisdom, and perspectives, and creating opportunities for their voices to be heard and respected. We seek to work together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to listen, continue to develop empathic awareness, and to learn more about the strength and diversity of First Nations culture.

Head Above Water is proud to stand alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, honouring their rich heritage and working towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all Australians.
