FAQs

  • You can make a general donation of any amount here.

  • No, not unless you really want to! When you register for the swim, you choose your preferred hour anytime during the 24 hours.

  • Absolutely! You can come back and swim again any time for a gold coin donation, as long as there is room in the lane. Check with the swim marshalls on duty at the pool.

  • No, you can walk or even float if you like. Lots of people do! Just make sure you select the Beginner lane during registration and give way to the people swimming in that lane. You can see them but they won’t necessarily see you!

  • No, there will be a free ice bath, meditation and breath work session happening on the Saturday afternoon with Breathwork HQ, Meditation HQ and Narraprana.

The team from Spinal Symmetry will be giving free massages to swimmers over the weekend.

And our mates from Collaroy Swim Club are running a BBQ all weekend poolside.

  • At Head Above Water, we raise funds so that our partners can deliver mental health and suicide prevention programs out in the community. At this time, we have affiliations with Anchor Health, Tomorrow Man, Tomorrow Woman, Meditation HQ and Spoke International. Click here to learn more about each of our program partners.

As we grow and raise more money, we may look to widen the scope of the organisations we work with. Our goal is to foster sustainable, mentally fit communities all across Australia.

  • Try these words (feel free to make it your own!):

The Head Above Water 24 Hour Swim is on 2-3 March at Collaroy Rock Pool.

I know times are tight friends, but if mental health and suicide prevention are something you feel strongly about and you have a spare dollar or two, know that anything you donate is going straight to grassroots programs in schools, clubs and community groups to give kids and people a safe space and the tools to get through tough mental times.

Sadly, suicide is a heartbreaking and ongoing issue in our community.

    Thanks so much x

  • We’d love to have you on our Volunteer Team over the weekend. You can sign up for as many time slots as you like here.

  • First things first, these are the instructions for registering a team for the main 24 hour swim. The Sunday morning relay team event is separate (see the next FAQ for instructions on that.)

To enter a team, you first need to register yourself as an individual swimmer.

    1. Go to https://headabovewater.grassrootz.com/headabovewaterswimathon26/tickets

    2. Choose any time and any lane. If you all want to swim at the same time, you just need to talk beforehand and make sure you all register for the same time (they don't need to be in the same lane.) But to be clear, the people in your team can swim any time across the 24 hours. A swim rego buys you a spot for one hour in the pool at a specific time, but of course people are more than welcome to come back and swim if there's room in the pool any other time over the 24 hours.

    3. When you get to the question "Are you fundraising in a team?" select Yes-Create a Team from the dropdown menu, then follow the prompts to name your team and continue the checkout process. Use the code TEAM2026 at checkout and pay only $20.

    4. You will now have two fundraising pages - an individual one for yourself and one for the team. You can send these page links to friends and family and they can donate to you. Any dollars you raise on your individual fundraising page will automatically be added to the team total as well.

    5. Send this sign up link to everyone in your team, and don’t forget to tell them your team name - https://headabovewater.grassrootz.com/headabovewaterswimathon26/tickets

Tell them, when they get to the question about teams, they need to select Yes-Join an Existing Team from the dropdown menu and select your team name. Please tell people NOT to create a new team.

Remind them when they get to the checkout to use the code TEAM2026 so they only pay $20.

Also remind them that anything they raise on their individual fundraising page will automatically be added to the team total.

    6. Everyone can follow the prompts in the confirmation email to access your individual and team fundraising pages.

  • The best way to think of it is that the 24 Hour Swimathon is the main event and the Sunday Relay Race is a separate mini-event.

If you’re putting together a team for the main 24 hour swim, follow the instructions in the FAQ on teams.

If you want to enter a team for the Sunday morning relay at 9am, get 10 people together and enter here. The cost is $200 for the whole team ($20 a head). You’ll be battling it out against other teams of 10 for a range of fabulous prizes in a fast and furious relay dash. Each swimmer swims 50m.
